The writing is simple, easy to read, and at 265 pages, I read it in a day. Kyemba says that as Amin rose to power, those who served alongside him watched his actions with surprise and concern, but chose to give Amin the 'benefit of the doubt'. They told themselves that Amin would get 'better'. They told themselves that Amin was uneducated.

Amin proved to be cunning, charismatic, manipulatative,and lucky. He knew intuitively how to achieve his goals. He was a sociopath. Amin got rid of dissenters, and installed his own minions in position of power. Amin brought soldiers/mercenaries/thugs from the area of his own tribe near South Sudan and installed them in military leadership positions. These thugs were not Ugandan, owed their position to Amin, and were enriched from the loot they stole from their victims.
